Eyeglass Frame Sample Inspection Checklist

Review the sample against an agreed specification, and keep a clear record of the result.

Set up the review

Record the model, colour, sample version, date and reviewer. Keep the quotation, dimensioned drawing, artwork and finish reference together. Check samples under consistent light and handle them carefully.

This is a practical buyer’s review, not a substitute for laboratory testing, regulatory assessment or professional optical fitting.

Five areas to inspect

  1. Dimensions and weight: record lens width, bridge, temple length, lens height and overall front width. Note the lens type when weighing. Compare against the agreed measurement method and tolerances.
  2. Hinges and movement: check that both temples open and close smoothly, screws are seated and joints show no obvious looseness. Avoid destructive or forceful testing unless a formal procedure has been agreed.
  3. Surface and colour: look for scratches, rough edges, uneven polish, coating defects and visible variation from the approved reference. Photograph issues under the same lighting.
  4. Assembly: inspect front alignment, temple symmetry, nose pads, logo placement and the seating of supplied lenses. Identify which components need adjustment or replacement.
  5. Fit and presentation: assess stability, bridge contact and pressure with intended wearers. Check the case, cloth, labels, carton protection and model identification.

Use a simple issue log

Model / sample revision: __________

Checkpoint and agreed requirement: __________

Observed result / measurement: __________

Photo reference: __________

Action owner and required correction: __________

Decision: approve / revise / review again

Separate appearance preferences from departures from the written specification. Ask for a revised sample when a change affects construction, fit or finish. Keep an agreed reference sample and its approval record.

Connect approval to the order

A single attractive sample does not establish the consistency of a whole production run. Agree the inspection scope, sampling approach, defect criteria and documentation before ordering. Required tests and market obligations should be confirmed for the exact product and destination.

Use the frame size guide for measurement notes and the quotation checklist to define requirements before a sample is made.
